Since that time Grace Temple Deliverance has worked diligently in their mission to Haiti. In 1998, the mission began building a senior high school and kindergarten that would teach children from grades K through 12. Work on the building was made easier in 1995 when the late Doris Akers left all of her assets to the Haitian mission.
Akers, a gospel music director, composer, musician and minister of music for Grace Temple, had traveled the globe for over 50 years as an artist. Her songs include "Lord Don't Move That Mountain," "Sweet, Sweet Spirit," "Lead Me and Guide Me," and "You Can't Beat God Giving." Akers' music can be found in mainline church hymnals across the country.
Over the past year Dr. Battle has made several trips to Haiti to supervise this project, which is valued at more than a million American dollors.
Grace Temple missionary work will not stop at the school. The 2001 project for the mission is to build and operate an emergency clinic and hospital. People in this Haitian village have to travel many miles to get medical attention.
Individuals interested in donating to the Haitian mission are advised to contact Grace Temple Deliverance Center. |
